SUMMARY:FT-MS 2025 Thematic School
DESCRIPTION:
Fourier Transform Mass Spectrometry (FT-ICR and Orbitrap) for th
e study of small molecules.

The last two decades have led to
the widespread availability of Fourier Transform Mass Spectrometry (FTMS)
for many researchers in France, through the acquisition of this type of equ
ipment or through projects carried out thanks to the INC's Infranalytics re
search infrastructure (FR2054). Ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) and Orbitr
ap instruments achieve very high mass resolution (105 to 106) and unparalle
led mass measurement accuracy (error < 1 ppm). The combinations with var
ious separation techniques and the various ionization sources associated wi
th it make FT-MS an incomparable tool for the qualitative and quantitative
study of complex media involving several hundred to several thousand small
molecules (50 to 1,500 Da) in the fields of energy, the environment, biolog
y, archaeology, and cosmology. However, FTMS techniques still require signi
ficant expertise in both the data acquisition and processing phases.

Part of the CNRS training programs, the FTMS 2025 school is free for CNRS s
taff and is also widely open to doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, en
gineers, researchers, and lecturers (the number of participants is limited
to 40). Organized from May 19 to 23 in Moselle on the VVF
site "Les Vosges Bitche" by the Infranalytics research infrastructure and t
he MassLor platform of the LCP-A2MC, the school aims to provide theoretical
and practical training. It will allow participants to understand new techn
ological advances, better target the contributions of FTMS in the context o
f their research projects and provide the tools necessary for the interpret
ation of the large quantities of data generated. It will also promote excha
nges with experts in the field on issues related to their research theme.</
